Hi Buffy,

Good points, but I believe schools get far less money for students not actually in attendance. At least, that's how it was when I taught for LAUSD. But yes, you're right, it is all about control either way, isn't it! Control of "the message", of what children "learn". You are absolutely correct on that o0ne. There is no single force in civilization more promising or more potentially damaging than education, depending on how it's handled. Currently, I don't have to tell you, our public institutions of education could not be handling it is a more disastrous manner. Thanks for writing!

The bill mentioned above is a NJ state bill but it seems, here in VA, that there is always some bill being pushed on the Senate against homeschooling. However, we have several well organized and fierce homeschool advocate groups here as well. I encourage all homeschool advocates and families to support their local homeschool groups and stay on top of legislation that will effect us!
I do believe there must be some other reason for politicians to being going against homeschoolers besides the schools making more money, though. Public school districts still get to count students in alternative education programs as part of their attendance records so homeschooling your child doesn't take that money away from the schools. So, that being said, it must just be more control issues on part of the government. Can you say IndoctriNation?
